Imran Khan Rejects Compromise, Stresses Talks for National Interest
RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founding chairman Imran Khan has dismissed any possibility of a personal compromise or "give-and-take" arrangement, emphasizing that while he remains open to dialogue, discussions must strictly serve the national interest.
Senator Ali Zafar conveyed this stance after his recent meeting with the incarcerated PTI leader at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi.
The 71-year-old former cricketer-turned-politician has been in prison since August 2023, facing multiple legal cases, including allegations of corruption and terrorism, following his removal from office through a no-confidence motion in April 2022.
Speaking to reporters, Zafar stated that Khan had never sought personal concessions, asserting that if he had intended to, he would have done so long ago.
His remarks followed an appeal by Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, urging the country’s influential figures to engage in dialogue through a give-and-take approach.
On the same day, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif responded to Aleema’s appeal, suggesting that the proposal could be considered.
The minister described Aleema’s remarks as a "fragile effort," indicating that her offer could be examined further.
Zafar quoted Khan as saying that he is willing to engage in talks for the sake of national unity and that his doors remain open for dialogue with key stakeholders.
The PTI founder also warned that no one would be allowed to “play on both sides of the wicket” and expressed frustration over silence from those in positions of authority.
Khan reiterated his demand for justice, calling for an expedited hearing of his legal cases. He stated, “I only seek justice.”
Additionally, the former prime minister confirmed that the party had initiated a protest movement, with a detailed strategy expected to be unveiled within the next five to six days. He has instructed PTI leadership to make full preparations for the movement.
