
Ashab Irfan Clinches South Australian Open Squash Title
Pakistan’s Ashab Irfan secured the South Australian Open Squash Championship title on Saturday, defeating Malaysia’s Duncan Lee in straight games in the final. The top-seeded player dominated the match, winning 11-8, 12-10, 11-9, without dropping a game.
This victory marks Irfan’s second professional title of the year, following his earlier triumph at the RC Pro Series 2025. Ranked 62nd before the tournament, he entered with a bye in the first round.
Irfan’s journey to the final included a win over Hong Kong’s Lee Chung in the second round, followed by a thrilling 3-2 victory against Malaysia’s Joachim Chuah in the third round. He then defeated Hamza Khan in the semi-final before claiming his sixth PSA title with his win over Duncan Lee.
The competition, held in Adelaide, featured a total prize purse of $9,000. At 21 years old, Irfan continues to rise in the Professional Squash Association rankings, solidifying his status as one of Pakistan’s most promising squash players.
